Unexpected beauty that I dreamed of (click on the captions to go to my Social Media accounts).

Peak Colors

Hello everyone how the hell are you and glad that you came back for some more stories and adventures of my photographic journey.  I was going to write about how I love to shoot the Milky Way and what it takes to get those types of images.  I ran into an unexpected beauty while out shooting yesterday.  I woke up that morning and decided that I was going to shoot by the river because there was two factors that helped with this. It snowed the day before and it was that wet fluffy snow that just attaches to everything.

While out driving to the first location I noticed that there was hoar frost on the trees but at the first spot the frost was not enough for what was in my mind.  SO off to the other side of town I drove in a rush to beat the light (driving safely within the speed limit lol).  When I got to the new location I was greeted with just the right amount of frost on the trees.  This made my heart sing with joy and I knew that I was going to get a shot that I had dreamed of for years.  When I left my house the temp was 11 Degrees Fahrenheit and by the time that I arrived at the second location it was down to 5 degrees.  I knew that it was going to be cold but dang 5 degrees was just a little too cold for this old man haha.  I was truly lucky because the wind was not blowing that hard at all maybe 5 mph which for Casper Wyoming is great.

Peak light on a frosty morning

While trying to line up my first shot of the day I had to decided what to put into the frame and luckily this spot had an old walking bridge so that was going to be my subject.  I then lined up the shot and waited for the light show.  As the show was starting I noticed a tree to the right of me with a nice little reflection in the river.  SO after I finished getting the shot of the bridge I jumped over the reflection shot this was during the peak of the light show.  In the back of my mind I was thinking frozen trees with the moon and the color in the sky.  I turned around and bam there was the shot that was in my head.

Turning around this was what was in my head

While taking all the images it hit me I had been dreaming of seeing this type of winter wonderland ever since I was a little guy.  I grew up in Southern NV so frosty mornings like this left me wishing that I could see them. Now as a grown man I was standing in that dream and my heart just poured with emotions that are so hard to explain.  When I was younger I thought that people who lived in this type of winter wonderland were the lucky ones because this time of year in NV the high is like 80 degrees so you will not be able to see a true winter wonderland like this.

I have seen this type of weather for the last six years and every time that I see the hoar frost my mind goes back to NV as a kid just dreaming of witnessing this type of weather first hand.  Now that I am a photographer I can go back to every image of a winter wonderland that I have taken and relive that dream.  The best part of being a photographer is getting to see these things happen in real time and taking the photo you get to be back in that moment in time over and over again.

Ending to a perfect Winter Wonderland

I want to say thank you for coming to read my story and I cannot wait to see you again in the next post.  Enjoy from Casper y’all. Feel free to follow me on Facebook and Instagram.
