Creating Memories with Photography

Hello all and thank you for either stopping by or coming back.  There is so many times that we start our photography journey to either capture that special moment with our loved ones or we start to enjoy being outdoors.  I started to enjoy the out doors and capture those moments that mean the most to me.  I use photography as therapy to help me become a better person.  Along the way it transformed into creating memories with my kids that will last a life time.

Trip to Mount Rushmore

There have been times when going out to shoot with the kids that it gets frustrating because they want to run right into the scene and disturb the ground that made the shot for you.  The key that I have found is to find certain types of images that you can include the kids into the experience.  This will not only create memories that you are recording with your camera but it will allow you to bond more with your kids.

I remember walking around a lake in Missouri just snapping photos of the kids doing their thing and the memory of camping and hiking around will stay with me for a life time.  Then there was the time that we stood under the stars when I was starting to learn how to light paint and the look in their eyes when they seen the back of the camera was priceless.  There have been so many times that I have been shooting a landscape and I turn around and see my oldest daughter just looking at the sunset with awe on her face.  You see she is like me and is just in love with watching the setting sun with the colors just blazing in the sky.

Hiking around the lake

There are so many images that I have taken and I have the memory of the trip with the kids letting them play as I create an image.  The fact is I have turned my photography into a family event with a lot of photo shoots.  There was the trip this last fall going to a lake the kids have never been to and hearing them laugh and play in the car was what made that trip so special that I still have not shared all the images that I took.  You see sometimes I take the kids with me and take some photos and keep them just for me.  The best part about that is when I look at those images I am brought back to the laughter and fun times that we had.

King of the hill

I was on the phone with a client the other day and she was wanting a special image that is not done all the time.  She sent me a photo that she wanted to try and create and the photographer in me was I can do this no problem.  There was one issue with that I bit off more then I could chew because truth be told I had no clue how to pull that off.  It took me two days of studying the photo to figure out how to shoot this.  I then went out and bought the supplies to pull off the photo.

I used my kids as test subjects to practice how to take the photo that the client wanted.  I managed to pull it off and learned how to get the shot that the client wanted.  The fact is this was a learning experience that I will never forget.  This also became a family adventure for me and the kids.  We found an old basement with an old coal burning furnace that set the mood for the ghost zombies that were walking around in the basement.  I was able to light up the scene then add the kids one by one to get the finished image I was after.  Then I let the games begin for the kids.  We posed them in all different ways to just let them have fun.  The images and memories that we all walked away with is what totally made this photo shoot worth doing.  I love creating art but when I can do that with my kids it makes it that much better.

One key that you can take away from this is the fact that sometimes creating art and memories can be done together.  I will forever look back on those images and remember hearing the laughter and seeing the joy in the kids eyes when they seen the images afterwards.  Loving your craft is great but when you can add that love with the love you have for your kids its the best of both worlds.  Thanks for stopping by and go check out my social media and give me a like and a follow y’all
