Hello and thank you for stopping by to read this blog and if this is your first time visiting how the hell are you? I started this Blog to share my experiences when out shooting and what I feel during those experiences. Words can only give you a small insight into who I am as a person and each and every image is a part of my soul. I have been shooting for four years now and I have grown as a person from the learning process that comes with photography. The biggest lesson that I have learned in the past four years is simple it’s the lack of control you actually have. You see when you are a photographer you have control over how the image looks in the end.

You cannot control what the person is really going to do during the photo shoot. You can lead them how to pose for the shot but in the end its your job to capture that moment that tells his or her story. It’s your job to get that candid moment that shows the group in a way that makes them smile for years to come. I have tried to tell the people how to stand where to look but in the end you will have that one photo that has three out of the five looking at something other than where they need to. You see the control is out of your hands on how to get the end photo. I love giving all the images that I take during a session to the client so they can see all the goofy ways that families act during the photo session. The funny part is the best images are not the perfectly posed ones. The best images are the one where someone is doing something off candor and out of character.
These little traits are what makes that session so much fun and capturing that is what I try to do. Control is what the client has on how the images look but the fact is the only thing that they can control is how they look in the image. I have a trick that I use while out shooting and that is to take one image where everything is prefect and people are looking right at me. Then I will say everyone do something goofy to break up the tension in the perfect photo. This allows all the people just wanting to have fun that outlet to get it out of his or her system. This has lead to getting some of the best images from the session.

The only control that you truly have at getting the best photo book quality image that you could want to show the world is to pick the candid moments. These are truly the moment that have no control at all when taking the photos and they truly capture the family as a group. The control that you as a photographer have over the photo session is very little because at the end of the day the client is either going to like the images that you take or they will not. Its your job to get the most out of the time you have with the client to capture the unique feelings that the family has for each other.
I try to gain some sense of control over the group but talking to them trying to find out what makes the group tick. I will then put the one person that is the most important to the family in the center of the image to give that feel of family. I remember being on location and the one person that I had to impress was the one that had all the control over how the photo session was going to go. I gave up all control to them so they could get the images they wanted. In the end I was able to get the shots that they wanted but at the same time with shooting a goofy set of images allowed the rest of us to relax and I was able to get some the best images from that session this way. I gave them all the images and they were able to pick the best ones they wanted to post where ever they wanted.

The lack of control is something that you have to learn how to give up in photography from portrait sessions to landscape photography. You would think that you have all the control in the world when it comes to shooting a landscape but the fact is the weather is something that you will never be able to control you have to give in and just take what you can get. Working with what you have will be something that you will learn in life as well. The lesson of no control is something that is so hard to except in life. The fact is you cannot control all the elements of a photo is one thing that I had to learn the hard way. I can only take the elements and arrange them in a way that is going to make an image look pretty.
The lack of control is an issue that we all face in life and we have to learn how to arrange what is happening in a way that we can deal with the issues that we face. Learning how to deal with lack of control is very difficult to say the least but once you accept the fact that you can only control how you react to an issue life will get easier. I have learned to accept the fact that I am not in control while making an image I am in control on how I take the image which is a lot like life. Learn how to control what you take into your life be it good or bad and that will help you deal with it.
