Hello and thanks for stopping by and if this is your first visit how the hell are you? We all love taking photos with our cellphones and our cameras, but what makes a photo something to remember. The experience of what is happening during the photo is what makes the images so special to us. Let’s look at old photos that we take all the time. How do they give you something to remember for all time?
That is easy to answer they give us a since of time and what happened during the moment that it was taken. That alone is something that is going to stay with you for a lifetime. That is why you cannot replace a photo with anything at all. When looking at the image you are brought right back to that exact moment the feeling you had when taking it. The smells, the sounds, the laughter, and all the emotions that were happening in that exact moment in time.

You see time is something that is worth more than money itself and having a photo that brings you back in time is something that will stay with you forever. I am a landscape photographer how is this going to work with what you are talking about? For me when I am standing there taking the photo I try to give you the viewer what I felt in that moment of time. When I am shooting a family portrait session I am trying to capture the real moments that the family is having to give them that memory of being together for the event. The natural moment is something that you cannot teach a person to see. I use my experiences of being a father to capture that moment for the family. I see the images that I would want and that is how I get that perfect shot of a kid smiling at just the right moment.
There was an event that took place on March 30th of 2022 that changed me. I was standing on location with a few of my closets friend taking photos at night. The Northern Lights had come to pay our state a visit gracing us with a light show that will be with us for a very long time. Photographers around the state where standing in a group of other photographers trying to put what they seen together. All across Wyoming people had their tripods ready and cameras setup just waiting for the light show.

The moment that it started we looked at the back of the screen trying to figure out if it was started or was it just AirGlow. As it turned out it was actually starting and for the next few hours three grown men became little children again. Seeing something for the first time with others. I have seen the Northern lights before but this was the first time with others that shared my passion for the night sky. As the images were being snapped each of us was screaming with joy like it was out first time ever seeing this. We were all so happy to be with each other on that night.
There were times throughout the night that we just stood there in awe over what was happening before our very eyes. The light show was reaching high into the sky and we started seeing the faint colors of pink and yellow as it was happening. The pillars were reaching for the heavens dancing with the stars all night long. During the show I was wanting to change lenses to try and get a different perspective on the show. This created a race to get back on the line and start snapping again. Once I changed my lens the light show was really starting to happen.
Talking with the two other photographers all we could say is man I wish that this person was here with us. We also talked about what the other photogs that we knew were doing during the light show. We knew that another photographer in Buffalo was out shooting and she was sharing some of her images with us via a photo of the back of her camera screen. The fact that so many of us all across the state were out shooting at the exact same time was amazing to me. The next morning our social media news feeds were filled with the event and even more people got to experience the event with us. The power of being able to share an event so fast is just awe inspiring to me. The fact that so many people got to share that moment of time is something that I will never get over.

The experience of seeing the event stayed with me throughout the next day answering all the questions that other had about how we took those images. The conversations that took place on social media the next day helped us relive the whole event again. All three of us had smiles on our faces all day long. I am writing this so I can go back to that moment in time when I can no longer see the northern lights again with ease. You see story is not just about the event for me it was about being out with my friends experiencing life and enjoying being with each other. This one event gave us all something to remember for the rest of our lives. Remember the little moments they are what life is about for all of us. Enjoy from Caper y’all
