If I could only use one lens?

Hello and how the hell are you and if this is your first time here thanks for stopping by.  In this blog I am going to cover why I use one lens the most.  The reason for this is simple everyone wants to know what is the best lens.  This comes down to personal preference on how you shoot.  This is going to cover so many factors on what focal range you want to use when out in the field.  I used to only shoot at 18 mm (28mm full frame) because that was the widest that I could get with the 18-55 kit lens that came with my Canon Rebel t6.

I was loving the ability to get so much in the frame with that focal length.  The problem was I was limiting myself to only shooting at that end of the lens.  I trained my eye for looking for an image at that focal range which was cool and it taught me how to really use y camera.  Later on I made the change to shooting full frame and I found a lens that was king of the hill so to speak.  The lens allowed me to shoot at the wide end of the lens and I had the telephoto end of a lens.  The range was 24-105 I was so happy with that lens to the point that I was only shooting with it.  I managed to start to see images at different focal lengths.

This opened up the door for many different types of images for me to see and take.  I was so happy that when I switched to shooting another system there was a lens that I bought to give me the focal range that I was used to but beings that I was on the crop system again I was shooting with the 18-105 (27-167mm full frame).  Now I had a new range to shoot with and I only had to take one lens with me so I was on cloud nine.  Fast forward to today and my favorite lens is the 24-105 on a crop body.  This gives me a full frame range of 38-164 which is the perfect range for the way I shoot now.  If I am being honest that lens rarely leaves the body and it is perfect for street photography.  I love the range that you get with the lens and if I am needing to get a super wide shot I will end up shooting a vertical pano which makes the images look so much better.  I am also not shooting on a tripod as much as I used to due to the fact that I am shooting more on the go vs just standing in one spot trying to reframe an image with the wider lens.

shot with the 24-105 at 24 mm

I will be firing off so many more photos with the 24-105 because I am able to see more photos.  I am still staying to the wider end of the lens but I am starting to see more of the longer shots as well and I don’t have to carry three lenses with me.  This lightens the load when out hiking to find an image.  Which really helps me to focus on seeing more because I don’t have to worry about changing lenses anymore.  If I could suggest a lens that gives you a similar range I would say there is no lens that I could suggest.  The reason for that is the fact that you have to try a lens and see what focal range you like.  I have found that the way that I shoot I love the focal range of 24-105 (38-164).  This gives me so much more to play with when out in the field.

Let me know what you are shooting with in the comments and let me know which is your favorite lens to shoot with.
