Is the Nikon d3300 any good for Landscape photography in 2022

Hello and how the hell are you? If this is your first time here thanks for stopping by.  In this blog we are going to talk about whether or not the Nikon d3300 is any good for Landscape Photography.  As always the short answer to this question is yes it will work for all the needs that you have for Landscape Photography.  I just love the compactness of the body it made it so much fun to shoot with for my Landscape Photography.  The image quality is really good for what you are paying for.  I managed to get this body and two kit lenses for it for around $100 bucks at a pawnshop.  It was a steal in my eyes and the person that I sold it to is still using it to this day and his images are wonderful.

The overall feel of the camera is great I love the way that it sat in my hand and it was totally worth buying at the time that I had the camera.  I truly loved the basic style that it had and allowed me to just think about taking the photo and the camera got out of the way when I was shooting with it.  The 18-55 f3.5-5.6 was one of the best lenses that I ever used it was sharp from corner to corner and the images were just amazing when I was shooting with it.  The live view worked the way that it was supposed to and allowed me to frame up the photos the way that I wanted.

When shooting with the Nikon I felt as if I was using my Android phone the fact is you really have to know what you are doing to shoot with a Nikon and the camera really does just get out of the way and allows you to just shoot when you want to.  The first issue that I had with the Nikon d3300 was there was no auto exposure sim that I was used to in live view so I was having to guess what my images were going to look like and that bothered me to the point that I was hating shooting with the camera.  I found that I was able to get the exposure right but I was having to take test shot after test shot to ensure that I was nailing the exposure.  That was slowing me down I felt at the time but what was really happening was I was forced to learn which is a good thing in the end.

There was no auto exposure bracketing on that model either which again was a feature in the t6 that I was used to shooting at the time so I had to manually do that and I was not happy about that either.  Throughout the whole time that I was shooting with the Nikon d3300 I was missing the little features that I grown used to when I was shooting with my Canon cameras.  The fact is Canon is like an iPhone it gives you all the things with ease of use where as the Nikon is like Android you have to already know what you are doing in order to achieve the same results.

The one thing that stood out the most for me when I was shooting with the d3300 was the compactness of it and how long the battery would last.  I was getting around 1400 images per charge with that bad boy and life was good.  I had to give up some features to get that great battery life that I wanted so bad or so I thought I wanted.  The best part about shooting with the d3300 was I knew what I was going to get and I had to work at making my images better so in the long run it would have been better for me to stay with shooting that system.  The thought process was I missed those creature comforts that Canon gave me so I shot myself in the foot by selling that camera.  If I could go back I would have kept that and worked through my issues to become a better photographer but that is not what I did so I cannot go back.

The last issue that I had with that camera was the fact that in the cold weather it just stopped working sometimes because it is not weather sealed and those were features that I really wanted.  The overall experience of shooting with the Nikon d3300 is something that I would not ever change and if I could buy another one with a great lens I would in a heart beat as it will allow me to get back to the basics for shooting and I know that my images would be even better.  The best setup for that camera would be to get the d3300 with the Nikon 18-140 f3.5-5.6 and I would be set for most of my walk around images that I love to get.  In fact I have thought about buying that exact setup for street photography as it is a light setup and perfect for just shooting the way that I want.

The best thing about shooting with a Nikon entry level camera is it teaches you how to shoot so in the long run you will be better off staying with that setup and forcing yourself to just shoot not worry about the features.  Again this is one of the best entry level cameras that in my opinion that you could buy and if I get the chance I will be buying it again because I loved it so much I got in my own head and that is not a good thing.

All the photos in this blog were taken with the Nikon d3300 and the Nikon 18-55 or the Nikon 55-250
