Global shutter is here (Sony A9iii).  Is this a tool for a landscape photog?

Hello and how the hell are you?  If this is your first time here thanks for stopping by.  In this blog we are going to talk about the new Sony a9iii which is a marvel in and of itself.  This new camera is a first of its kind and it will change the way that most photogs take his or her photos.  The need to actually work at getting a photo for timing is now gone.  The need to be able to capture that perfect moment is now gone.  The need to actually learn what to look for is somewhat gone.  The camera is a marvel because of the global shutter that is in it.  The darn thing has eliminated the rolling shutter problem that we have had for many years.  The vertical lines will stay vertical when panning for a shot. The flicker of the lights is no longer an issue because all the pixels are being recorded at the same time.

What does this mean for the future for us.  This means that soon this type of sensor is going to make its way down the line for all the cameras that Sony has.  This is a good thing for all the people that are just starting out right now.  The need to learn when to take the shot just got so much easier for you.  The fact is the A9iii is going to make the average shooter look so good.  The images that you will be able to get are going to be so much better than they were before right.  Well not so fast I say.  I say that because it will help you out yes and it will make it easier but to me it will make photography boring.  I mean that with all my heart and the reason for that is the challenge is gone for me with this type of tech.

Look at it this way for a min.  When you are starting out you have to learn timing on when to take the shot and with this body the timing is a few seconds before that moment and a few seconds after that moment.  That means you actually learn nothing on how to take the shot.  You just know that all you have to do is be there for the shot and the camera is going to get the shot for you.  This all comes down to learning how to take the shot now has a cheat code that I wish I would have had when I started out.  The tech of a global shutter is amazing and for those of us that know how and what to look for this is going to make that so much easier but for those of you that are just starting out I feel that it truly just helped you become a pro faster.

The biggest question is how is this going to help you as a landscape photographer.  This has to be the dumbest thing to be thinking about.  To me the only camera that you need for this genre is one that takes a photo.  The Sony A9iii is overkill for landscape photography but I could see how 120FPS could be used for this genre.  The waves crashing into the cliffs would be perfect for this type of shooting.   Trying to capture that bird flying in the sky it would be great for it as well.  So yes this camera is going to help change the way that some of us shoot but for me at the end of the day it is way to much for how I shoot.  The trusted old Canon 5D2 is still my workhorse and it will be for a very long time.  The price is right for me on that body and I don’t really need much of anything else.  Enjoy from St Johns AZ y’all
