Hello and how the hell are you?  If this is your first time here thanks for stopping by.  In this blog we are going to talk about how I am a Time Traveler and Artist at the same time.  I was watching a video about the basics of photography and the term of “capturing time” was something that he was talking about to describe shutter speed.  This got me thinking and when I do that beings that I have a SiFi type of mind it hit me.  I am a Time Traveler of sorts and I say that because as a photographer we travel to capture our images and those images are capturing a moment in time.  You see where I am going with this right.  

The fact that a photo is something that captures a moment in time gives us as photographers the ability to say that we are time travelers and we can only travel back in time.  This happens when you are looking at the photo that you took and remember the feeling of bing at that location.  The reason that happens is it triggers those feelings that we had when taking the photo.  This is something that we as photographers strive for with every image.  Trying to tell the story of what it was like when on location.  

As the viewer of said photo you get to travel with us because you see the end result of that image on your screen or print.  The experience of what it was like at that moment in time is recorded on the camera and then we take it home and edit the image putting our personal feelings in the edit.  This is where the artist comes into play as we get the freedom of choosing what goes into the image.  The editing is where we have the freedom to document the image to how we seen it.  This gives us so much freedom and no one and I mean no one gets to tell you what it looked like because they were not there with you. 

I for one love making art to what is in my head and that sometimes means that I create an image with a different sky to help give you the feeling that I was feeling even with a flat sky with no clouds.  I am transport myself to that location and know exactly what it would feel like to have a cloudy colorful sky.  I also know how the light is going to dance across the scene that I am recording because I have been to that comp so many times that I know what it is going to look like.  The freedom to travel back to that event is something that I love doing and why I am always looking at my photos to get better at giving the viewer a good experience.  

The time traveler in me is just addicted to capturing a moment in time and putting my stamp on history one image at a time.  If you want to be a time traveler just look at an old image of a loved one and you will be transported back in time to that exact moment and experience the love that you had for them.  I wish that I would have taken more images of my loved ones that passed away so I could be with them one more time.  The fact is with being a time traveler I am able to do that with looking at my photographs of landscapes.  I love visiting the Tetons every time that I look at an older image that I took in the past.  I remember the smells in the air the feel of the cold air (which even in June it is cold) blowing across my face.  The look of love from my wife when I got back from getting the most epic shot of all time.  The joy in my voice as I told her about what happened.  I love the emotion that is captured with a good portrait. 

Then giving that to the client and you can see the joy and love that they have for the others in the family photo is something that you cannot experience unless you are a time traveler.  For some people like me it is hard to put into words how you felt at that moment when you pressed the shutter but being a photographer if I do my job right I will not need that many words to express how I felt in that moment.  If you want to be a time traveler you need to just take a photo and bam you can be transported back in time.  

How could you travel forward in time that is so hard to explain but I will give it a go.  To really learn how to travel into the future you will use the experiences from your past and a good imagination to put that into a photograph/digital art.  This is accomplished by being able to see what the landscape or whatever you are taking a picture of could look like.  This will allow you to create an image that is so real that could actually happen.  This means that you have to learn how light plays on the ground and people that you are taking a photo of.  This will allow you to create photos that are literally out of this world.  For example, if you can find a place that looks other worldly you can put planets in the night sky of it and transport the viewer to another world with a simple set of photographs.  

I love doing this from time to time just to play around with editing.  The ability to create something that no one else was able to is something that is very fun to do.  I love the abilities that I have gotten as a photographer and the way I see the world.  There are dark parts to the world but there is also some really bright loving parts to the world that we have not yet captured.  Enjoy from St Johns AZ y’all
