Hello and how the hell are you? If this is your first time here thanks for stopping by. In this blog we are going to cover how to get past the imposter syndrome that you are going to get when you first start out in photography. I was listening to the radio this morning and the song by Shaggy Wasn’t Me came on and it hit me. How to get over the feeling that you are not a good photographer hence the imposter syndrome. There is no sure fire way to get over this at all it is a part of who you are. The reason that you are having this feeling is because deep down you feel that your work is not good enough.

I am here to tell you that you are a good photographer you just don’t know how the process works yet. So you are going to take killer photos and photos that are not so good. The process of learning what is a good photo is the first hurdle that you are going to have to get past. The only way to get past this is to practice, practice, and practice. This will totally help you with getting better images. The fact is we all start somewhere and we all suck when we first start learning how to take photos. During this process you are going to get success in some of your images and then you will start to feel that you are not worth the praise that the fans are giving you. That is normal and we all go through this and all think that we are not good enough because we are just starting out.

The one thing that you have to keep in mind is that you will never be the best in your own eyes there is always going to be something that you could do better. I am speaking from a place of experience on this subject. The reason for the experience is I still to this day feel that my work is not good enough and I have to do better. This too is normal and you are good enough is what you have to keep telling yourself. The only way to perfect the images is to get out there and shoot. The first time that you get the “photographers high” you will want that feeling again and again. The only way tot get that is to make sure that you put yourself int he position to get the shot. This will make you feel so good. Then the praise comes from all the people about how good of an image is that you took. That is when doubt creeps in and you feel that you don’t deserve the praise.

The funny part is you are the one that put in the work to be at that location at the time the light show as going to start. The only way that you are going to get past this feeling of inadequacy is to learn more about the craft that you love so much and become the best that you can be in that craft. The haters will always hate and the fans that love your work will always love your work. So keep at it and become the best photographer that I know you are and keep shooting. Be like Dori and just keep swimming (shooting). Enjoy from St Johns y’all
