*Shuttered Elegance: Why DSLRs Remain the Creative Powerhouses of 2024

Hello how the hell are you? If this is your first time here thanks for stopping by.  In this blog we are going to cover the main reasons how a DSLR is still a creative powerhouse in 2024.  There are three main reasons to choose this type of camera.  The Durability and Build Quality, Image quality, and Longevity and Investment.  These three areas are where the DSLR is still a great tool for creating the images that you want and love.

The first reason of Durability and Build Quality is key to the whole choice of shooting with a DSLR in 2024.  The durability of the body that you choose is where you are going to set the bar for the way that you use your camera.  Having a great build quality ties in with the durability of the product as well.  The two go hand and hand with each other because if you buy one that is not built well it will not last in the extreme weather conditions that you are going to be putting them through.  The durability comes into play with how it will hold up to the rain or snow.  The build quality is when it totally lasts for years to come with the way of weather sealing that comes with the body and lenses that you choose to shoot with.

The second point is Image Quality that you want out of your camera.  Are you going to want the images to stay online or are you going to want to print the images to a larger format.  This is where knowing how the images are going to look and hold up while editing.  The images have to be able to be pushed and pulled in post in order to keep that low noise in the shadows and the pull back the highlights to keep the textures in the clouds.  This comes down to how good or bad the sensor is which is the powerhouse for the images.  This means that you have to pick a sensor that has been tested throughout the years and still holds up in today’s world.

This brings us to the last point of Longevity and Investment.  The camera that you choose is going to have to have a good ecosystem that comes with it.  I.E. the lenses that you can buy with it.  Are you going to want OEM lenses or are you going to want the third party lenses.  You have take in to count which lenses that you want to use with it all the time and how are those lines going to work with a newer system when you decide it is time to move on.  This is going to impact you in the long run and how you are going to buy the gear that you are wanting and what you are wanting to use it for.

Here is a bonus tip for you Cost Effectiveness.  At the end of the day you want to create a balance between great results and low cost for your needs.  The return investment on the older DSLR is higher than what you would get with a brand new Mirrorless camera and lenses.  The actual cost of buy a pro level DSLR and lenses is one third of the cost of buy into the Mirrorless systems out there today.  I love the fact that I have two full frame pro level bodies and lenses that cost less than buying just the body for the newer mirrorless bodies out there.

The image that is on the wall was shot with a Canon rebel t6 and the print is 4’x12′

To sum this all up for you if you want to get a pro level setup for your gear buying a used DSLR with the lenses is going to save you a lot of money in the long run.  This is also going to be a setup that is going to last a very long time and when you want to upgrade to that new setup the cost is going to be less in the long run as well.  Getting your money’s worth out of an oder DSLR is going to show after the first two or three paid shoots that you go on.  The savings of being able to afford to travel is also going to be something worth looking at as well.
