Hello, how the hell are you? If this is your first time here, thanks for stopping by. In this blog, we are going to go over whether or not the iPad Air M3 could actually replace your laptop. Why would you want to replace your laptop with an iPad? Can the versatility of the iPad really be a benefit? Will the iPad be the computer of the future?

I am going to answer all these questions with a real-world way of looking at it. I have been in a dilemma that a lot of you may be in. You see, my laptop is over five years old, and it was getting to the point that I knew that I was going to have to replace it. The question was, will the iPad be able to handle the four major tasks that I have a need for using a computer for? Those tasks are as follows: writing blogs, editing photos and videos, reading for research, and media consumption. That’s it. I just need it for those tasks, and the main question is will the iPad’s only way of working be able to do those four tasks without an issue?
The next issue that I was facing was as simple as can the iPad be as versatile as my laptop, or is there going to be an issue with its usage? The answer is yes. The iPad is actually more versatile than any laptop for getting work done anywhere. I am able to lay down in my bed and read for what I want to write about. Then, watching videos is so much easier when you are just holding a screen. When it comes to using the iPad for just about anything, it all comes down to the case that you choose. The last reason that it makes it more versatile is that it comes down to me wanting to use the iPad more than the laptop.

To answer the last question is as simple as: do you truly believe the iPad is the computer of the future? I say that due to the fact that when you take on the task of using the iPad as your main computer, it comes down to how you want the iPad to be used. The iPad is a tool, and it all comes down to how you work. If you are the type of person that is used to using the laptop for everything, then the iPad is not going to live up to what you want. Now, if you are the type of person that uses your phone for just about everything, then the iPad could actually be a better choice.

When it comes to using the iPad only, it all comes down to choice and how you want to compute daily. If you are a programmer, then the iPad is not the choice for you. If you are a person that needs the programs that are desktop level for any certain profession, then the iPad will not really work for you. If you are a creative person and you want a touch first interface, then the iPad is for you. The actual use case for the iPad-only way of life is getting less and less because most people’s only computer is his or her cell phone. The smartphone is actually the computer of the future for most people, so it is natural that the iPad is actually going to be the computer of the future for a good majority of the population of the world. I mean, let’s be real for a minute and look at the tasks that your phone can now do.
There is not one task that I have a need for computing that I cannot do on my phone. The only true reason that I went with the iPad is for the larger screen. With Apple bringing in the newer features to the iPadOS 26, it blends the line of a traditional computing experience and a future computing experience of computing on a phone. The act of using your phone for ninety percent of daily tasks can and are being done on your phone. The newest iPhone system-on-a-chip (SoC) is just as powerful as the 2020 M1 chip that powered so many computers.

If you have all that power to process in your hands, why would the iPad be that bad, right? We always accept how powerful the phone is but dismiss the actual power of the iPad. The thought of the iPad not being able to do a certain task is bad, but in the next breath, that same task can be done on the phone, and we praise it. This is the iPad issue that has been there for so long, and Apple is the one that wanted to hold the iPad back and progress the power of the iPhone. So they actually created the problem, saying that the iPad is not as powerful as a desktop-class chipset.
Then they went and put the same chips in the iPad as they have in the MacBooks. Where is the line going to be drawn to where the iPad is not the future? They have a walled garden, and Apple has the control of what goes on the iPad, and at the same time, they give the Mac the power to run and do just about everything you could want to do on them. When one chooses to use an iPad as his or her computer, they are choosing to work on a bigger phone, and that is it. The iPad is now so powerful that they have the same chips as their laptop counterparts, so it actually says that the iPad is the future of computing. The argument of the iPad vs. laptop is the same argument that was had back in 2010: can the laptop replace your desktop? We have gone full circle, and the new laptop is now the iPad/Tablet.

At the end of the day, choosing a computer for your personal needs comes down to how you want to use the computer. The laptop is not the choice for me. I wanted to have one computer that is more like my phone and not like the traditional computer. I went with the iPad, and it totally replaced my laptop. The iPad Air M3, to me, is just as powerful as my MacBook Air M1. The only area it falls short is in the level the apps are at. The developers need to start thinking that the iPad is just as powerful as their laptop counterparts due to the same chipsets that they both have.
