In this blog, I am going to talk about one thing, and that is how the iPad is the best basic computer for most normal people. If you have a phone, be it an iPhone or an Android, then the need for a “real” computer is not as big as you think. The iPad is the perfect basic computer, and really, it’s just a bigger phone that gives you that larger screen for everyday tasks that you are most likely doing on your phone. Why do you need the iPad? How is the iPad better than my phone? Can the iPad replace the need for a “real” computer?

Why do you need an iPad?

To be honest, the short answer is you really don’t need an iPad if you already have a great phone. There is nothing that the iPad can do that will be better than what your current smartphone is doing for you right now. The only real reason to buy an iPad in today’s digital world is for the bigger screen. Let me guess, you want to surf the web, but your mobile web browser is just too small on the phone. I hear you and totally agree with you, and the iPad gives you a stronger web browser, albeit still a mobile web browser, but that larger screen makes it feel like a desktop browser. So do you need the iPad? No, but it sure is nice to browse the web with that larger screen.

The fact is the iPad is just an extension of the phone to the point that it makes you feel as though you are on a “real” computer. You see, Apple perfected the iPad to the point that most people in the tech industry give you reviews that tell you the iPad is the best computer that you will ever have, but you still need a desktop or laptop for certain tasks. That is not me; I am talking from experience of just using the iPad for what it is: a basic computer. There are only three main tasks that I have for an iPad writing, watching videos, and gaming. Writing this blog, for example, was researched and written on the iPad using Pages and Safari. The only thing that I added to make that a better experience is a 3rd-party keyboard case. Because who the hell needs a 300-dollar keyboard in the real world? 50 dollars is going to be good enough for the average user.

Yes, the iPad can.

Lol, yes, the iPad can and will be the best basic computer for most people like me. Light gaming is totally the best on the iPad and really is an escape from everyday tasks. You see, the average person is not going to be gaming a triple-A game on the iPad. They are going to be playing games like Angry Birds (side note, I love that game) or Bejeweled, the basic of games that perform very well on all the iPads. The iPad can be a gaming beast when you want it to for the basic games, not the demanding ones. Heck, the iPad to me is the one-stop shop for entertainment, from reading a good book to playing a stupid game that just takes up time. The basic computer was never intended to replace a gaming computer; it is the jack of all trades and master of none.

The iPad is the best at 90 percent of computing.

Yes, you read that right. The iPad is going to get you 90 percent of what you need for a computer. The interface is so simple and just like working on a smartphone. This means that for the person that is not sure on what to do with a smartphone but they don’t want to get a computer that really scares him or her, the iPad is the one computer that will get them what they need. For example, my father could not use a regular computer to save his life, but I gave him an iPad, and he was off and running. He would use it for surfing the web for cooking recipes and 3D origami that he loved to make. YouTube was his app of choice for learning just about everything he could about those two topics. His computing ability was never that good, but give him that iPad, and he was a wizard and could show what he learned from the iPad.

This is what I mean.

The iPad is the best basic computer for most people. If you are a tech guy or gal like me, then the iPad is not going to be enough, but for those less computer-savvy people, the iPad is going to not only be your main computer but the one that you reach for when you want to do something online. The iPad is the dumbest computer but the best computer for those that just need a computer for doing dumb things that we all do online.
