Why you should shoot different genres of photography.

First image knowing

Hello and how the hell are you?  If this is your first time here thanks for stopping by.  In this blog we are going to talk about which genre of photography should you start with as a beginner.  Well that is such a hard question to answer as it will in the end all come down to what you like and love to shoot.  The fact is that you need to explore all genres and see which one tickles your fancy so to speak.  For me it started with street photography even before I had a camera.  You see I grew up in Las Vegas NV and I was surrounded by big buildings and lots of people.  So for me I loved being a people watcher and that is where I started to noticed how they interacted with others.

I am still wanting to really dive into street photography and show what I have learned as a photographer. You see I know what to look for because throughout my journey I was studying what to look for I just need to practice it to become good at it.  The issue is where I live and the fact that there is not that many people here so that will have to be something that I do when I can and practice by shooting portraits more because the concept is the same.  You are looking for emotion/action in the models.  This will allow me to see when people are doing something interesting when walking the streets.

I love portraits so much it is fun fast paced and keeps you on your toes when shooting the images.  You are constantly changing settings looking at the images and making small adjustments to get the best out of the client and yourself.  I love interacting with people as I am a people person and making them laugh to get the best smile out of them is so much fun.  I truly become myself when out shooting portraits.  This makes the experience so much fun for the clients and it helps break the tension between you and them.  I am able to truly be myself when on a portrait shoot.  That is where doing landscape photography is my peace of mind type of photography and allows me to break away from the people and just enjoy being alone in nature.  The amount of times that I have been screaming with joy when I nail the image cannot be said in a blog post.

The simple sounds that happen as the sun cresting over the horizon.  The world comes to life and the day is a new which is the best feeling in the world to me when I am standing on the bank of a river.  I feel alive filled with joy and that is when I get my best images.  Now with all that I have said about photography there is one genre that I love the most and that is seeing the stars.  You see I have never told a soul about this before.  I remember sitting on my couch when I first starting to think about being a photographer.  I was scrolling Facebook and an image of the Milky Way came up and I was so awe struck that I was like I need to know how to shoot that.  I wanted to be the best astrophotographer there was ever going to be.

I thought that I was going to be able to capture an image like that with my cellphone.  Boy howdy I was wrong there is so much more that goes into making an image of the Milky Way to be able to see the foreground and the Milky Way in one shot.  If you have the right lighting you can get it but the foreground is going to be blurry because of the F-stop that you are using is so open that only the stars are going to be in focus.  This sent me down the road of truly learning how to take a photo.  I had to start out with the basics of photography and work my way towards being a astrophotographer.

The basics are where you start you in order to see where you want to be as a photographer.  I want to shoot portraits now but my heart will always be with shooting the stars and a good landscape.  The thing is I am going to be shooting all the genres that I have talked about here all the time because there is certain things about them that are me.  I love a big city for the people that are in it and the buildings that showcase the human race.  I love portraits because you get to see a person for who they are at their most venerable state.  Most of my clients have never really had their photos taken by a photographer.  I get to work with them to help others see what they have to offer and why they are so special.  Shooting the stars is my form of art because of what it really takes to create an image that shows the world the night sky.  I am going to shoot all theses genres because all of them are a small piece of who I am.

The main reason that you should shoot everything when you start out is simple you need to build a foundation of skills that are going to cover a large variety of genres to hone in on what makes you who you are.  The easiest way to do that is to explore what makes you happy and go from there.  Remember that you don’t have to pick just one genre and stay with that you just have to learn how to be who you are when out shooting.  We all have different sides that show through at different times in our lives but at the core there is one thing that we show in all our images and that US.  Enjoy from St Johns AZ y’all.

    2. I started my life as a photographer with a point and shoot box camera, then moved to SLR, and recently DSLR. I started mostly doing landscapes and shooting candid shots at family weddings. Now with the use of the DSLR camera I have much more control of how I make my photos.
I have since started entering into a digital competition program called GuruShots, just mostly to see how much I can improve my own photography. I’ve never won the top prize, but I have had several of my photos digitally displayed around the world, which gives me great pleasure.
